October: Pumpkin spice and the return of hockey

By Jessi Pierce

There are a few things synonymous with the month of October; crisp leaves changing colors, sweaters and scarves abundant, Friday night lights, and of course, pumpkin everything.

At Touchpoint, October also means one more thing: hockey.

While it’s easily argued that there is no offseason for those of us lucky enough to be in the sports industry, October truly signifies the return of one of our favorite sports on ice. The presses begin running hot with our first MHJ issue of the season, and we roll out the reader-favorite NHL preview specialty in USA Hockey Magazine. Not to mention, our digital newsletters from Massachusetts to Minnesota (and everywhere in between) are running full steam ahead in preparation of youth and parents heading back to the rinks.

But it’s not just the surge of work that gets us excited for the return of the hockey season (believe it or not). Nope, for us, it’s the people.

The hockey community is unlike any other, and as a company built of former players, coaches and just plain aficionados (watch the video below to prove it) we love sharing the stories of and for those people.

Detailing how Winnipeg Jets captain Blake Wheeler is not only an on-ice icon but football, baseball and piano achiever, too, is just as fun to write as it is to read. Or how Pittsburgh Penguins rising star Jake Guentzel was told he was too small to ever make it in the NHL—talk to him and he will tell you otherwise.

And those are all just the tip of the iceberg. We can’t wait to share even more through the 2019-20 season.

Yep, our hockey bags are packed and pencils sharpened as often as a player’s skates. We’re ready for you, hockey. Plus, in our opinions, nothing goes better with that Pumpkin Spice Latte in the bleachers than a copy of one of our latest hockey stories.

See you at the rink!
